IRWCCB Announces Global Certification Transition Program through December 2027
Due to several rapidly evolving challenges regarding computer-based standardized testing, the
IRWCCB voted to temporarily suspend all IRWCCB testing programs in order to develop a novel
competency-based evaluation process that ensures candidates meet the standards set by the
IRWCCB.
Although the transition program will require candidates to meet all certification standards and to comply with the IRWCCB/Global Code of Ethics, they will not be asked to complete a written and/or oral exam in order to become IRWCCB certified.
Candidates interested in becoming certified through the transition program will be expected to complete the transition application, pay the transition application fee and agree to complete the renewal of their certification prior to the expiriation date of their transitional certification.
The transition program will certify candidates for a period of one-year.

The transition application takes about 5 minutes to complete and does not require any documentation, as the IRWCCB will use your self-report and attestation to review your application. However, the answers you provide should be supported by documentation (e.g., training, supervision, work experience, etc.). This documentation should be made available if IRWCCB staff are asked by the Board to review the supporting documentation of a transition application.
Yes, but all candidates are required to complete their own transition application and attestation in order to be considered. Also, it is the candidate’s responsibility to complete the renewal process once they are certified.
The responses provided on the transition application will determine which certification is best for each candidate, based on the number of hours and types of training, coaching practice and supervision that the candidate has completed.
Yes, certified professionals may upgrade their certification at any time once they have completed the additional requirements. For example, if someone has an ICARC and completes 500 hours of coaching work experience and additional training, they can apply for the ICARC-Advanced prior to renewal.
Some candidates may choose to wait until the new testing program has been launched, which is currently estimated to be live by late 2027. However, becoming a certified professional under the transition program allows candidates to become certified immediately and continue to develop their professional skills and experience. It is up to each candidate, agency and system to decide what is best for their organisation.
