Role Description
An International Certified Addiction Recovery Coach - Advanced (ICARC - A) is anyone committed to promoting recovery from addiction by assisting recoverees to remove barriers to recovery, generating individualized recovery options, and connecting recoverees with recovery support services designed to build
recovery capital.

1-4 years
Certification & Licensure
Applicants must have the ICARC credential (for 1 year)
A Degree
A degree is currently not required
Training / Education Requirements
120 hours of ICARC - A specific training (with domain requirements) Recovery from Addiction - 30 hours; Recovery & Wellness Coaching - 60 hours; Recovery Education - 12 hours; Ethical Responsibility - 18 hours
Coaching practice & Work/Volunteer Experience
The ICARC - A requires a minimum of 500 hours of work/volunteer experience with no less than 100 hours coaching practice with clients
Distance Learning: IRWCCB Approved Distance Learning Applicable
No more than 60 hours of asynchronous / distance learning may be used
IRWCCB ICARC - A Standardized Multiple Choice Exam
Passing Score on the IRWCCB ICARC - A Written Exam
IRWCCB Evaluated Recovery and Wellness Coaching sessions
Passing Score of the IRWCCB ICARC - A Coaching sessions 3 x 30 min recorded sessions
Recovery and Wellness Coaching Supervision
Must have received a minimum of 15 hours coaching supervision within the previous 12 months for ICARC-A credential from an IRWCCB approved coach supervisor
Annual Renewal Standards
10 hours of Coaching Specific CPPD including 3 hours of IRWCCB approved ethics
