Role Description

An Addiction Recovery Coach is anyone committed to promoting recovery from addiction by assisting recoverees to remove barriers to recovery, generating individualized recovery options, and connecting recoverees with recovery support services designed to build recovery capital.

Stage of Professional Development

Entry level - 0 years

Certification & Licensure

As the ICARC credential is open to anyone interested in or committed to Addiction Recovery / Wellness Coaching, no certification or license is currently required.

A Degree

A degree is currently not required.

Training / Education Requirements

60 hours of ICARC specific training (with domain requirements) Recovery from Addiction - 20 hours; Recovery & Wellness Coaching - 20 hours; Recovery Education - 5 hours; Ethical Responsibility - 15 hours

Coaching practice & Work/Volunteer Experience

The ICARC currently does not require any coaching practice or work/volunteer experience prior to certification.

Distance Learning: IRWCCB Approved Distance Learning Applicable

Up to 60 hours of asynchronous / distance learning may be used

IRWCCB ICARC Standardized Multiple Choice Exam

Passing Score on the IRWCCB ICARC Exam

IRWCCB Evaluated Recovery and Wellness Coaching sessions

Not required

Recovery and Wellness Coaching Supervision

Not required

Annual Renewal Standards

6 hours of Coaching Specific CPPD including 1 hour of IRWCCB approved ethics
