An Addiction Recovery Coach is anyone committed to promoting recovery from addiction by assisting recoverees to remove barriers to recovery, generating individualized recovery options, and connecting recoverees with recovery support services designed to build recovery capital.

As the ICARC credential is open to anyone interested in or committed to Addiction Recovery / Wellness Coaching, no certification or license is currently required.
A Degree
A degree is currently not required.
Training / Education Requirements
80 hours of ICARC specific training (with domain requirements)
Work Experience hours in last 5 years
The ICARC currently does not require any coaching practice or work/volunteer experience prior to certification.
IRWCCB Approved Distance Learning Applicable
Up to 80 hours of asynchronous / distance learning may be used
ICARC Standardized Testing
Passing Score on the IRWCCB ICARC Exam - waived until December 2027

Annual Renewal Standards
6 hours of Addiction Recovery Coaching Specific CPD including 1 hour of approved ethics per year
